Long Road
Ron Hensley
I met a man who was down on his luck
He held out his hand and I gave him a buck
He said it wouldn’t be nearly half as bad
If I was back home with all the friends...I thought I had
He said, it’s driving me crazy...I can’t figure it out
But, one thing I’ve learned is how to do with out
He said, it’s driving me crazy cuz I’m all alone
It’s a Long Road....When you ain’t got a home
Chorus:
It’s a Long Road to go when you’re down
You might see me in the lost and found
Or under a bridge on the outskirts of town
Wearing old tattered clothes....asleep...on the ground
OR...you might just catch me Hanging around
It’s a Long Road...when you’re down!
I passed a woman out there on the street...
rummaging around for something hard to eat
To find a friend would just make her day
I gave her a dollar...and she...blew away
I saw a young boy...he was lost out there
It’d been weeks since he’d combed his hair
He held up his pants with an old piece of rope
He had no dreams...and he had no hope
There’s too many people like that out there
With nobody who knows...and nobody who cares
I guess what they really need is a break
There’s got to be an answer...for heaven’s sake
What do you do to fill all your time?
You could write a song and hope that it rhymes
If you had a pencil and some paper today
You could write down all those things...you had to say!
Chorus:
It’s a Long Road to go when you’re down
You might see me in the lost and found
Or under a bridge on the outskirts of town
Wearing old tattered clothes....asleep...on the ground
OR...you might just catch me Hanging around
It’s a Long Road...when you’re down!
